The Best of NYFW SS15 – Day 1
In my opinion, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Tadashi Shoji, TOME, and Marissa Webb were the obvious standouts from day one. I’m sure you’ll also be swooning over their gorgeous, ready to wear collections.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Designers – Lubov Azria and Max Azria
Californian based, BCBGMXAZRIA is the stunning baby of husband and wife designers Max Azria and Lubov Azria.
Inspiration + Collection
The Azria’s drew inspiration for their SS15 collection from faded artisanal rugs. Romantic and seductive, the collection oozes a relaxed bohemian vibe, sultry femininity, softness and a hint of structure with the quilted vests.
Colour Palette + Textures:
The artisanal colour palette is evident throughout the collection which is reflected in the blush, cream, coral and soft blue tones along with tapestry inspired floral prints.
The use of light silk fabrics and loose silhouettes gave the appearance that the models were floating down the runway, while the quilted vests and obi belts synched at the waist gave a hint of an east meets west feel.
Beauty + Hair
Luminous skin, bold brows, and bronzer – the makeup was kept beautifully understated and fresh-faced to compliment the exquisite elegance of the collection. The hair again, effortless, soft and natural.
To complete the look, a lick of OPI Bubblebath – a sheer pale pink colour, was painted on the nails.
TADASHI SHOJI
The talented Tadashi Shoji was born and raised in Japan and now heads the Los Angeles-based fashion house.
Inspiration + Collection
Inspired by the refection of the famous golden palace, Ca’ d’Oro on the water in Venice, this collection is simply stunning! Elegance, luxury, grace, sophistication and class – it has it all.
Colour Palette + Textures:
The colour palette was bathed in soft sunlight: gold-yellows, blush-nudes and reflections of sea-green and soft blues, along with the trending black and white colour theme of the season. The lace and light fabrics almost appeared to ripple as they moved down the runway.
Beauty + Hair
The collection was accentuated with simplistic, light and angelic makeup and hair.
MAC Makeup Artists used MAC Eye Gloss in Pearl Varnish (similar) over the eyes to give the eyes a pop of luminosity. MAC Color Creme Base in Luna was used as a highlighter over the cheek bones and temples, forehead to give an ethereal look.
The hair was parted down the middle and slicked back into a low, structured braided bun.
Finally to finish the look, a coat of Butter London High Tea nude nail polish was applied to the nails, before a cross hatchet effect was layered on top, in Button London The Full Monty – a bright gold-bronze shimmer polish.

Australian expats Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin are the talented designers behind the New York based fashion label, TOME.
Inspiration + Collection
Lobo and Martin drew inspiration for their SS15 collection from India. A beautiful combination of feminine fluidity and structure underpins every look. The obi style belts, ethereal silks and taffeta culottes roughly emulate a saris.
Colour Palette + Textures:
Rich colours of navy, pinks, marigold, saffron anchored by the season staple of black and white were used throughout the collection along with delicate lace, lightly shimmering taffeta, flowing silk, soft cotton and high-shine floral brocade.
Beauty + Hair
While makeup was kept minimal and simplistic, the hair was sophisticated and slick with a tradition Indian-style braid.
MARISSA WEBB
Designer – Marissa Webb
Born in Korea and raised in the United States, aside from designing for the Marissa Webb label, which launched in spring 2013, Webb is currently the Creative Director for Banana Republic.
Inspiration + Collection
The Marissa Webb SS15 collection has a girly-grunge feel with edgy separates for the creative, on-the-go woman. The collection easily translates to the real world away from the runway.
Geometric and graphic prints, embody femininity with a masculine touch. The asymmetric hem lines are fun and flirty, complimented by the rich oversized khaki jackets and transparent cargo vests. Metallic tweeds take any look from day to night.

The street grunge feel continued with the hair and makeup – a daytime smokey eye paired with glowing, dewy skin. The hair was gritty yet feminine – the voluminous five strand braids were one of my favourite hair styles of the day!

There were so many incredible collections and an early emerging trend of effortless hair and makeup across most labels.
