The Best of NYFW SS15 – Day 2

In my opinion, Kate Spade New York, Rebecca Minkoff, Trina Turk, and Nicole Miller were the obvious standouts from day two.  I’m sure you’ll also be swooning over their every-girl, ready to wear chic collections.

Below are my favourite looks from each of their collections:

KATE SPADE

Kate Spade New York has always been known for its playful use of bold + bright colours and retro style pieces.  The spring/ summer 2015 collection is no different!

Inspiration + Collection
Inspired by “…fresh starts, taking chances and a feeling that anything is possible”, the collection certainly has a fresh, back-to-nature, garden party feel.

Colour Palette + Textures:
Bold colours, hues of green, floral prints and black and white stripes are complimented by a slue of quirky wicker animals purses and cheeky graphic clutches.

Beauty + Hair
Dewy skin and matte graphic eye liner kept the makeup look, fresh and pretty an slightly 60’s Bridget Bardot esk.

MAC Makeup Artists used Studio Moisture Creme – a super rich and creamy moisturiser packed full of skin-nourishing extracts, Face and Body Foundation (light to medium, buildable coverage with a natural finish) and Studio Finish Concealer to give the skin a beautiful, natural glow.

Go Guava and Seasonally Peach cream blush from the Casual Colour Palette were used on the cheeks and dabbed into the lips.

To create the thick graphic liner, MAC Fluidline in the colour Blacktrack (an intense black) was used to sculpt out the shape. Lashings of Haute and Naughty – Too Black Mascara was applied to the lash

To complete the look, two coats of Deborah Lippmann – Amazing Grace white nail polish was applied to the nails, before a thin line of black tape over the free part of the nail.

TRINA TURK

As a Californian local, Trina Turk is inspired by the beauty that surrounds her in the Golden State.  The lifestyle label includes swimwear and home decor pieces.

Inspiration + Collection
Trina Turk’s SS15 collection has a definite West Coast swag – it was inspired by the intense bloom colours at the LA Flower Markets.  You can easily picture yourself swanning around with girlfriends, wearing the gorgeous designs.

Colour Palette + Textures:
Infused with Turk’s signature bold prints and vibrant colours, you can help but feeling happy and a little giddy when looking at this collection.

Beauty + Hair
Luminous skin once again featured – the makeup artist used Stila 10-in-1 Illuminating Beauty Balm to give the skin a lit from within appearance.

The eyes were given a retro makeover with a pop of Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Turquoise, which was applied to the eyelid – just above the lash line. Along with lashings of  Stila Mile High Mascara.

To complete the look, a bright coloured orange-coral lipstick with a matte finish was applied to the lips – Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina.

The hair was kept understated and simple – relatively straight and pulled off the face with a black and white stripped head wrap.

 Designer – Rebecca Minkoff

Well known for her luxury line of handbags, Rebecca Minkoff was born in San Diego and launched her popular lifestyle label in 2001.

Inspiration + Collection
Influenced by iconic fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville, mixing the sensual and feminine style of Turbeville’s ‘70s work with the photographer’s own irreverent attitude.  The Collection has a relaxed yet breezy, beach holiday vibe perfect for the modern woman.

Colour Palette + Textures:
Standout pieces from the subtle-toned collection include, waterfall skirts, antique lace tops, 3D printed dresses and oversized sun hats.  A soft colour palette of cream, blues, greens, pink and denim.

Beauty + Hair
Keeping with the relaxed and breezy theme, the hair was given a casual chic tousled look – Kerastase Stylists used Kerastase Mousse Bouffante through damp hair before finger blow-drying.

Nail technician’s from Essie created a unique watercolour nail with pastel blue, purple and green polishes.  Essie Bikini So Teeny was painted on the toes.

Nicole Miller’ signature design aesthetic is feminine, sexy and refined.  Miller draws inspiration from a wide range of influences including cinema, contemporary art, mid-20th century architecture and exotic cultures.

Inspiration + Collection
Miller is known for elements of whimsy and surprise throughout her collections – the 2015 collection is no different.  It’s playful, fun and flirty with a tropical island meets exotic jungle feel.

We loved the pineapples and parrots – you can almost imaging yourself in an exotic jungle, an appreciated the highly tailored cutout dresses, ruffle pencil skirts and cropped sweaters.

Colour Palette + Textures:
Continuing with the clashing print trend of previous seasons, the black and white and bold, playful colours with graphic prints work beautifully with this collection.

Beauty + Hair
Nicole Miller’s SS15 Collection featured minimal makeup and piecey, effortless hair.

And that’s a wrap for a soupy NYFW SS15 – Day 2!

As much as I love the high fashion shows of Fashion Week, there is nothing like watching collection pieces come down the runway that you easily imagine in your own wardrobe.

So many of today’s pieces got me excited for SS15…bring on the pineapples, oversized hats and bright bold colours.
